Position Description: Teacher Assistant

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preference given to applicants with experience working with young children and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina as required for movement activities with children.

Responsibilities:

1. Professionalism:

  • Demonstrates dependable and exemplary work habits
  • Relates sensitively to pre-schoolers, parents, & staff
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding WCP children and their families
  • Assists in keeping classroom and storage spaces clean & organized
  • Participates in professional development by completing required CEU’s
  • Engages in a staff recognition program, such as, “How Full Is Your Bucket?”
  • Works under the supervision of the teacher in a collaborative relationship
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, for the good of the program.

2. Communication:

  • Uses effective communication skills in collaboration with co-workers, staff, & parents
  • Is sensitive to co-workers strengths and attitudes to maintain productive working relationships for the good of the program
  • Communicates with your students thru developmental dialogue
  • Observes & Monitors Developmental Milestones for each child to be communicated by the teacher in parent conferences
  • Assists with open communications with parents under the direction of the teacher

3. Knowledge:

  • Becomes familiar with Developmental Milestones for pre-school children
  • Assists the teacher with locating/creating developmentally appropriate activities that encourage milestone development
  • Assists with locating/creating materials and strategies that encourage sense of self in relationship to God & the care of others.
  • Is familiar with the guidelines & policies in the WCP Staff and Parent Handbooks

4. Support the Design and Delivery of Classroom Instruction:

  • Assists with maintaining a child-centered, nurturing classroom environment
  • Assists with lessons, classroom design & activities that encourage milestone development thru motor, language, & listening activities; thru science, math & the natural world; & thru creative art, music, & dramatic play
  • Assists with religious concepts & Bible stories to encourage the love of one another
  • Uses a student recognition system; such as, “How Full Is Your Bucket?”
  • Uses Positive Discipline strategies
  • Encourages Social & Emotional Development thru Positive Behavior Models

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.50 - $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
